COPD AND breathlessness

I have smoked FOR 20 years AND have had a chesty cough FOR about 5 years. IN July 2007 the doctor told me I had COPD which I have since READ up about. I am now confused AS TO the differences BETWEEN emphysema, COPD AND chronic bronchitis, they ALL sound similar! I am breathless IN the morning AND WHEN I try TO be MORE active, will this improve if I do MORE exercise OR should I rest WHEN I become breathless?
