We are building quite a comprehensive list of ideas of little things to cut back on which collectively could make a bigger difference over a month. On the news this morning they were warning that potentially millions of people could loose there jobs, it is too early to tell if this is what will happen but this is certainly a worrying time. Having stayed pretty optimistic earlier this year I have to admit that now I am really starting to believe that there are going to be some tough times ahead.

TO help save money take your lunch pack up TO WORK instead OF buying sandwiches, NOT ONLY does it save you money but it can also be a much healthier OPTION.

Always take the stairs instead OF lifts OR escalators TO help loose weight AND wash the car yourself AT the weekend instead OF taking it TO the garage, that will save you money AS well AS giving you extra exercise.

Buy your fruit AND veg ON the market AND if you go later ON a saturday ( I have just been) they ARE desperate TO GET rid OF everything so bargins a plenty!!!

like you say in the article changing the brands you buy from the supermarket can save you a fortune without you noticing. I used to buy Heinz this and kelloggs that and now I buy either asda or tesco's own make AND can't tell the difference. I also shop around a bit as I find that different supermarkets have different things on offer each week. The coop and sommerfield are great for buy one get one free offers but just make sure you don't buy anything ELSE AS they ARE usually MORE expensive.

I usually clean my floors with quite expensive floor wipes, when I came to do them today and had run out so I used a bit of washing up liquid in warm water and I think they look less streaky! No more floor wipes for me!

Hey Charlie I used TO drink Cider WHEN I was 15 it has taken me the LAST 30 years TO progress onto red wine, what I now have TO start drinking cider again. I could probably afford a bottle TO myself now rather than sharing it BETWEEN 6 see I feel LIKE I have MORE money already LOL

2 months ago I cancelled my gym membership, I hadn't been going regularly anyway AND so it was very expensive FOR the couple OF times I did AND now me AND a couple OF the other mums ON my street have started jogging (AND walking) We ARE going IN 10 minutes TO make room FOR Sunday lunch!

Demy21 19th October 2008 (10:10AM):
Don't take the kids shopping...paying a baby sitter works out cheaper for me

I READ an article recently that suggested drinking cider instead OF red wine , I think that IS alittle extreme AND would rather NOT drink AT ALL! There you go I am saving already AND looking after my liver. NO offence TO the cider lovers out there. AS I under stand that they do NOT ALL frequent park benches, SOME will be drinking IN the warmth OF their homes ON their lap tops.. ha! ha!

Jon 18th October 2008 (12:10PM):
jog around the supermarket you can't buy AS much AND you GET fit, ha ha

Jager 18th October 2008 (09:38AM):
Buy a slow cooker...the way forward for cooking cheaper meats...look now I am sounding like my mum! Even better walk to the shop to buy it
