Facts about acne, head and neck pimples and blackheads.
The typical appearance of acne is a mixture of; greasy skin, blackheads, whiteheads, red spots and bumps, yellow pus-filled spots, head and neck pimples and acne scars.
Blackheads commonly appear with acne and head and neck pimples, they are upsetting as they are very visible due to the dark appearance. The blockage is a hard yellow plug, the plug is a mixture of the sebum that has solidified and the dead lining cells that have been shed. As these are like skin they contain some skin pigment that gives skin its colour (melanin). However, once the pigment is exposed to the air it turns black. This gives it the name blackhead but it is not dirt.
It is important to take some action as soon as acne or head and neck pimples appear. This will help to avoid permanent acne scarring and reduce the psychological effects that acne and head and neck pimples can have upon ones self. Acne must be treated sooner rather than later and early treatment minimises the risk of acne scarring.
